St Lucia Passport 2026: Visa-Free Access, UK Loss and Limits

The St Lucia passport provides access to around 140–155 visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations, Schengen included, for a donation from US$240,000. The UK withdrew visa-free entry on 5 March 2026, and the passport does not provide visa-free entry to the US or Canada.

St Lucia passport benefits and limitations

Advantages

• Schengen and the Asian hubs. Europe, Hong Kong and Singapore visa-free covers most business travel for a Nigerian, Indian or Vietnamese national living in Toronto or Houston.
• Not in US Proclamation 10998. Antigua and Dominica nationals lost US immigrant and B-1/B-2, F, M, J visas from 1 January 2026. Saint Lucians did not.
• Canada eTA possible. A Canadian PR holder with a valid US visa can fly to Canada on the Saint Lucia passport with an eTA.
• Held for life, passed to children. Citizenship transmits to children born after the grant; no renewal condition beyond biometrics at passport renewal.

Limitations and risks

• No visa-free UK entry. Since 5 March 2026 a Saint Lucian needs a UK visitor visa. Dominica lost UK visa-free access in 2023; the other three programmes retain it.
• Schengen is not guaranteed after 2028. The Commission's July 2026 letter sets 1 June 2028 as the phase-out date it wants. Vanuatu lost Schengen through the same mechanism.
• No visa-free entry to the US or Canada. You still need a US visa. The Canadian eTA depends on a visa you already hold, not on the new passport.
• 18 months average processing. Plan travel around the processing time: Saint Lucia is the slowest programme in the region, range 12–26 months.

A Saint Lucian passport offers fewer visa-free destinations than the one you already hold. Its value is as a second nationality: a travel document if your own becomes a constraint, a citizenship your children inherit, and a base with no tax on foreign income should you ever move there for 183 days a year. For a US citizen, nothing changes with the IRS: worldwide income, FBAR and FATCA reporting continue.

For US and Canada residents on another passport

This is the applicant profile the passport serves best. If you hold an Indian, Nigerian, Pakistani, Vietnamese or Chinese passport, visa-free access to Schengen, Hong Kong, Singapore and Latin America removes the need for consular appointments on business travel. It does not change your US status or visa, and it reaches Canada by eTA only if you hold a valid US visa or held a Canadian visa in the last ten years.

How many countries can I visit visa-free with a St Lucia passport?

Around 140 to 155, depending on the index. That includes the Schengen Area, Hong Kong, Singapore, most of Latin America and the CARICOM states. It excludes the United Kingdom since 5 March 2026, the United States, China and Australia. We check the destinations you actually fly to before you commit.

Why did the UK remove visa-free entry for Saint Lucia?

The UK introduced a visa requirement on 5 March 2026 citing a rise in asylum claims by Saint Lucian nationals, not the citizenship programme itself. Dominica lost UK access the same way in July 2023. Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda and St Kitts and Nevis keep visa-free UK entry with the UK ETA.

Can I fly to Canada on a Saint Lucia passport?

Only with an eTA, and only if you held a Canadian visa in the last ten years or hold a valid US non-immigrant visa, and you arrive by air. Otherwise you need a Canadian visitor visa. For a Canadian PR holder this is usually workable; for someone with no Canadian or US visa history it is not.

Does the US restrict Saint Lucian passport holders?

Saint Lucia is not named in Presidential Proclamation 10998, which restricts immigrant and B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas for Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica nationals. Saint Lucians can apply for US visas normally, though immigrant-visa processing has been frozen for 75 countries including all five islands since 21 January 2026. A US citizen's own status is unaffected.
