Antigua citizenship requirements for US and Canadian applicants
For US and Canadian citizens
You will pass the nationality screen and, in our experience, the due diligence, provided your tax filings and bank records are consistent. The FBI or RCMP certificate takes a few weeks; order it first. Source of funds is the part US and Canadian clients underestimate: the CIU wants to see where the US$230,000 came from, not just that you have it. Nothing in the requirements asks you to give up your citizenship, move, or change how you file tax at home.
For US and Canada residents on another passport
Your nationality determines eligibility. Indian, Nigerian, Vietnamese, Chinese and Pakistani nationals qualify. Iranian, Russian and Belarusian nationals are restricted, with exceptions for long residence abroad, so send us your residence history before anything else. You will need police certificates from your home country as well as from the US or Canada, which can take months, and the CIU will ask about any US or Canadian visa refusals. Your US or Canadian immigration status is unaffected by applying.
Antigua restricted nationalities and grounds for refusal
Restricted nationalities. Antigua restricts or excludes nationals of Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Belarus, Sudan and Yemen, with exceptions for people who have lived outside those countries for ten or more years. The list and the exceptions change, so we confirm with the CIU before quoting. Since December 2025 the ECCIRA database lets every unit see a refusal by another, so we never file speculatively with a second unit.
Why the CIU refuses. An unexplained gap in the source-of-funds trail; an undisclosed visa refusal, criminal matter or former name; adverse media the applicant did not mention; answers at interview that contradict the file; a dependant who fails the dependency test. Nearly all are avoidable at the preparation stage, which is why we spend four to eight weeks on the file. A refusal costs the due diligence fees and the 10% deposit; the donation is paid only after approval in principle.
After approval. Citizenship can be revoked for false information in the application, and the 30-day presence requirement within five years is a condition of the grant. Figures verified 27 September 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Which family members can be included in an Antigua application?
Spouse; children under 18; children aged 18 to 30 who are financially dependent; disabled children of any age; parents and grandparents aged 55 or over who depend on you; and unmarried siblings of you or your spouse. The NDF price covers four people, with extra dependants charged by age. Dependants aged 12 and over pay due diligence fees, and everyone 16 and over is interviewed.
Do I need to visit Antigua to apply?
Not to apply. The file is prepared with us in Toronto and filed by the licensed Antiguan agent. Every applicant aged 16 or over must attend an interview and give biometrics, which the CIU can arrange remotely or at a designated location. After citizenship you must spend 30 days in Antigua and Barbuda within the first five years under the 2026 amendment.
Which nationalities cannot apply for Antigua citizenship?
Nationals of Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Belarus, Sudan and Yemen are restricted or excluded, with limited exceptions for people who have lived outside those countries for ten or more years. The list changes; ask us and we will confirm with the CIU. A refusal by any other Caribbean unit is shared with Antigua through ECCIRA, so tell us about any earlier application.
What police certificates do US and Canadian residents need?
An FBI Identity History Summary for anyone who has lived in the US, and an RCMP certified criminal record check for anyone who has lived in Canada, plus certificates from your country of citizenship and any other country where you lived six months or more in the last ten years. Order them first; they are usually the slowest documents to arrive.
Is there a language, education or residence test?
No. There is no language test, no education requirement and no requirement to live in Antigua. The tests are character, health and source of funds. The only presence obligation is 30 days in Antigua and Barbuda within the first five years of citizenship, which replaced the earlier five-day rule in 2026.
