Antigua and Barbuda passport benefits and limitations

Advantages

  • Visa-free UK access, lost by Dominica and Saint Lucia. Dominica lost visa-free UK entry in July 2023 and Saint Lucia on 5 March 2026. Antigua still has it.
  • Europe and the main Asian hubs. Schengen, Hong Kong and Singapore cover most business travel our clients do.
  • Lowest per-applicant cost for a family of four. Four passports for one US$230,000 donation plus fees.
  • Lifetime citizenship, dual nationality permitted. You keep your existing nationality; ask us how citizenship passes to children born later.

Limitations and risks

  • No US access, and a US proclamation. A visa is required, and immigrant, student, exchange, intra-company and religious-worker visas are blocked for Antiguan nationals since 1 January 2026. Grenada, St Kitts and Saint Lucia are not named.
  • Canada is conditional. The eTA works only with a prior Canadian visa or a valid US visa, by air. Without either, you need a Canadian visitor visa.
  • Schengen after 2028 is not guaranteed. CBI programmes are now grounds for suspension under the Visa Suspension Mechanism. Vanuatu lost Schengen access this way.
  • No China, no E-2, 14 months to get it. If China or a US E-2 matters, Grenada is the better fit; and Antigua is the slowest Caribbean programme at 10–18 months.

Antigua and Barbuda passport compared with US and Canadian passports

For a US or Canadian citizen the Antiguan passport is a second passport held in reserve, not an improvement in mobility. For a US or Canada resident on a more restricted passport it widens visa-free access everywhere except the US and Canada.

How to get an Antigua and Barbuda passport: suitability by applicant

For US and Canadian citizens

Your own passport offers wider visa-free access than the Antiguan one. What you acquire is a second nationality on a separate passport: contingency travel documentation if your passport becomes a liability abroad, a citizenship for the children on your application, and the option of tax residence in a zero-tax country later. Your US or Canadian tax changes only if you relocate. The route is the US$230,000 NDF donation, 14 months, and an interview for everyone aged 16+.

For US and Canada residents on another passport

For these applicants the Antiguan passport delivers its main benefit: Schengen, the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore without visa appointments. It will not replace your US visa or Canadian permit, and if you plan to enter the US as a student or intra-company transferee, Proclamation 10998 blocks that on the Antiguan passport; apply on your original nationality. If your nationality is restricted (Iran, Russia, Belarus and others), send us your residence history first; ten-plus years outside the country sometimes qualifies.

Frequently asked questions

How many countries can I visit visa-free with an Antigua passport?

Around 150–164 destinations visa-free or with a visa on arrival, depending on the index. The ones that matter most are the UK, the Schengen Area, Hong Kong and Singapore. The US, Canada and mainland China are not on the list. We say 150+ and check each destination before you fly.

Can I enter the US with an Antigua and Barbuda passport?

Only with a US visa. Antigua is not in the Visa Waiver Program and has no E-2 treaty. Since 1 January 2026, Proclamation 10998 bars Antiguan nationals from immigrant visas and from B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas.. Visas valid on 31 December 2025 were preserved under the December 2025 settlement.

Can I enter Canada with an Antiguan passport?

With an eTA only if you held a Canadian visa in the last ten years or hold a valid US non-immigrant visa, and only arriving by air. Otherwise you need a Canadian visitor visa. If you already live in Canada on a permit or PR, keep using that status; the Antiguan passport adds nothing at the Canadian border.

How long is the Antigua passport valid and can it be renewed remotely?

The first passport is issued for five years and renewed for ten. Under the regional ECCIRA rules, biometrics are captured at renewal, so expect to attend in person at a consulate or in Antigua. We handle the renewal paperwork for existing clients.

Will the Antigua passport lose Schengen access?

Not today, and not certainly. The EU's December 2025 report made running a CBI programme grounds for suspending visa-free access, and the July 2026 letter asked the five islands to phase out CBI by 1 June 2028. Antigua is negotiating. We advise assessing the passport on its UK, Asian and family benefits, with Schengen visa-free access treated as a current benefit that may not continue after 2028.
