Dominica passport benefits and limitations

Advantages

  • Schengen for 90 days. The principal benefit for clients whose own passport needs a visa for Europe.
  • Visa-free access to Asian hubs. Hong Kong and Singapore visa-free.
  • Lowest minimum investment. From US$200,000, or US$250,000 for a family of four.
  • Credibility through enforcement. 68 passports revoked since June 2024. A programme that enforces its own standards is better placed to keep its visa waivers.

Limitations and risks

  • No UK visa-free entry. Visa required since July 2023, no restoration date announced.
  • US Proclamation 10998. No US immigrant, B-1/B-2, F, M or J visas for Dominican nationals. A US citizen is unaffected.
  • Canada needs a visa. Unlike Antigua, St Kitts and St Lucia nationals, Dominicans cannot use the eTA.
  • EU phase-out request for 2028. The Commission's July 2026 letter asks all five islands to end CBI by 1 June 2028; Schengen access could follow Vanuatu's.
  • In-person passport collection in Dominica. In-person passport collection and renewal in Dominica is being legislated.

How to get a Dominican passport: suitability by applicant

For US and Canadian citizens

Your own passport offers wider visa-free access. The Dominican passport's value lies elsewhere: a second nationality, a document that is not American or Canadian when that matters, and citizenship you pass to your children. It does not change your tax position. Route: an EDF contribution from US$200,000, a licensed agent filing, an interview, 9.3 months average.

For US and Canada residents on another passport

If your passport needs a visa for Europe, this one removes that for 90 days at a time, plus Hong Kong, Singapore and most of the Americas. It does not ease entry to the US or Canada, and since January 2026 some US visa categories are closed to it. Keep your work permit, PR or study status for North America. Nationality restrictions apply; ask us.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a Dominica passport?

Through citizenship by investment: a contribution to the Economic Diversification Fund from US$200,000 (US$250,000 for a family of four) or approved real estate from US$200,000, filed through a licensed agent to the Citizenship by Investment Unit. Everyone aged 16 or over is interviewed. Average processing is 9.3 months (range 4–18). The passport follows the certificate of naturalisation.

Is a Dominican passport visa-free to the UK?

No. The UK withdrew visa-free entry for Dominican nationals in July 2023, and a standard visitor visa is required. Schengen, Hong Kong and Singapore are unaffected. If you need the UK regularly, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda still enter visa-free with the UK ETA.

Can I use a Dominican passport to enter the United States?

Only with a visa. B-1/B-2 visitor visas remain available, but Proclamation 10998, effective 1 January 2026, bars Dominican nationals from immigrant visas and from B-1/B-2, F, M and J categories. A US citizen who also holds Dominican citizenship is unaffected. A US-resident applicant should keep using their existing passport and status for US travel.

How many countries can a Dominica passport visit?

Around 140 to 145 visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations, depending on the index, as of 27 September 2026: the Schengen Area, Hong Kong, Singapore, CARICOM and most of Latin America. Not the UK, the US, Canada or China. The count matters less than whether your regular destinations are on it.
