Turkish passport travel access in 2026
The Henley Passport Index 2026 ranks the Turkish passport at around 49–52, with around 112–114 destinations reachable visa-free, on arrival or by eTA. The destinations our US and Canadian clients ask about most are not among them:
- Schengen Area: visa required.
- United Kingdom: visa required.
- United States: visa required.
- Canada: Turkish citizens generally need a visa.
The E-2 treaty investor visa
The passport's distinctive US benefit is the E-2 treaty, in force between the US and Turkey since 1990. Turkish citizens are eligible to apply if they invest a substantial, at-risk sum in a real US business they direct. US rules scrutinise nationality acquired through investment, including domicile, and the State Department and USCIS examine the bona fides. Canadian and US citizens gain nothing from it.
Residence and other obligations
There is no minimum stay before or after citizenship, although adult applicants must visit Turkey for biometrics and residence permits. Men who acquire Turkish citizenship may have a military-service obligation depending on age; age-based exemptions and a paid option are available, and male applicants and sons should check the rules with us before applying. The eligibility conditions are in our guide to Turkish citizenship by investment requirements.
Investment thresholds, from US$400,000 in real estate, are on the Turkey programme page. To decide whether Turkey or a Schengen-access passport fits your travel, book a consultation with our consultants.
People also ask
How much do you need to invest for Turkish citizenship by investment?
Turkey citizenship by investment requires US$400,000 in qualifying real estate held for three years, or US$500,000 on the bank deposit, bond, fund or fixed capital routes. Government fees are around US$574 per family member, and property buyers should plan for roughly 5–7% on top of the property price.
Do you have to live in Antigua and Barbuda to keep your citizenship?
No. Antigua and Barbuda citizenship by investment does not require you to live on the islands. You must spend 30 days in the country within the first five years of citizenship under the 2026 amendment, which replaced the old five-day rule. Applications approved before the rule took effect keep the five-day requirement.
Can you travel to the US or Canada on an Antigua and Barbuda passport?
Not visa-free. The US requires a visa, and since 1 January 2026 Proclamation 10998 suspends immigrant, B-1/B-2, F, M and J visas for Antiguan nationals. Canada grants an eTA only to Antiguan nationals who held a Canadian visa in the last ten years or hold a valid US visa, and only when arriving by air.
How much does St Kitts and Nevis citizenship by investment cost in 2026?
St Kitts and Nevis citizenship costs from US$250,000 through the Sustainable Island State Contribution, for a single applicant or a family of up to four. With due diligence, administrative and passport fees, a single applicant pays about US$261,500 in government charges and a family of four with young children about US$270,500.
Will the St Kitts and Nevis passport keep visa-free access to Schengen?
Schengen access is intact today. In July 2026 the European Commission asked all five Caribbean governments to phase out citizenship by investment by 1 June 2028, and the Visa Suspension Mechanism now treats operating a programme as grounds for suspension. We advise that visa-free Schengen access is current and not guaranteed after 2028.
