Citizenship by Investment in Montreal
Citizenship by investment in Montreal, plus European golden-visa residency. A CICC-licensed advisory for Quebec's bilingual entrepreneurs. Book a free call.
Montreal's entrepreneurs move easily between North America and Europe, and their second-citizenship questions tend to follow the same map. If you are researching citizenship by investment in Montreal, Fast Passport Boutique by Jane Katkova is a CICC-licensed advisory that guides Quebec families through both Caribbean citizenship and European residency — working remotely from our Toronto office at 1110 Finch Ave West, Unit 406, with no need to travel and full attention to the trade-offs that actually matter to you.
Why Montreal families weigh Europe first
Quebec's francophone business culture is unusually connected to Europe, and France in particular. Many Montreal entrepreneurs already have customers, suppliers, family or property across the Atlantic, so when they consider investment migration they often start with a European residence rather than a Caribbean passport. That instinct is sound: a golden visa grants the right to live, work and study in the European Union, and can lead over time to EU citizenship. It costs more and takes far longer than a Caribbean programme, but for a bilingual family whose life already leans toward Europe, the fit is often better. EU residence also opens the European single market to a Montreal-based business, simplifies extended stays near European clients or family, and can ease children's access to study in Europe.
European residency by investment: Portugal and Greece
Two programmes dominate the conversation for Montreal clients, and they suit different priorities.
| Programme | Main route (2026) | Minimum | Physical presence | Path to citizenship |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Portugal Golden Visa | Investment or venture-capital funds; cultural or heritage donation | €500,000 funds; €250,000 cultural (€200,000 in low-density areas) | ~7 days per year | Naturalisation after 10 years (7 for Portuguese-speaking/CPLP applicants) |
| Greece Golden Visa | Real estate; or commercial-to-residential conversion and listed-building restoration | €800,000 in high-demand areas; €400,000 elsewhere; €250,000 for conversions or restorations | No minimum stay for the permit | Naturalisation after 7 years of genuine residence |
Two points that trip families up. Portugal's popular real-estate route was removed in October 2023, so the live options are funds and cultural or heritage contributions; and under a 2026 nationality law the naturalisation clock is now ten years, not the five you may still read online. Greek property must be at least 120 square metres, the permit carries no minimum stay, but citizenship there requires roughly 183 days a year of real residence plus a language and history exam. Our Portugal vs Greece Golden Visa comparison weighs them side by side. For completeness: Spain's golden visa ended in April 2025, and Malta now offers residency only, so neither is a route to a European passport by investment.
Quebec immigration and a second citizenship abroad are two different things
This is the point we most often clarify for Montreal clients, so it is worth stating plainly. Quebec runs its own provincial immigration selection for people who want to settle in the province — the Quebec Selection Certificate and its economic streams. That system is about immigrating to Quebec. Citizenship or residency by investment is the opposite direction: it is about acquiring a second nationality or residence abroad, in the Caribbean or Europe, while you continue to live in Montreal. The two do not conflict and are governed by entirely separate authorities, so pursuing a Grenadian passport or a Portuguese golden visa has no bearing on your Quebec or Canadian status. This is general information, not legal or tax advice, and we coordinate with your own accountant or notary for formal opinions.
Caribbean citizenship still has a place
When the real goal is speed and mobility rather than a life in Europe, a Caribbean passport is usually the better tool. The five programmes deliver a full second citizenship in months rather than years, with no residence requirement, from an approximately US$200,000 donation floor. Grenada is often the standout, adding visa-free access to China and eligibility for the US E-2 investor visa; St Kitts and Nevis is the oldest and most predictable. You can compare the family in our overview of the Caribbean citizenship programmes, and weigh the two philosophies in citizenship by investment versus a golden visa. Figures are indicative, and program terms and thresholds change, so we confirm current numbers on a call.
A remote process for Montreal clients
We run the entire engagement remotely, and many of our Montreal clients are comfortable working in both English and French; where useful we coordinate directly with your own French-speaking accountant or notary. The work itself is consistent whichever route you choose: an honest first assessment, a shortlist that genuinely fits, a clean source-of-funds file, and management of the government submission, due diligence and completion on your behalf. Caribbean programmes require an interview and biometrics, which we arrange without a trip to the islands; European golden visas involve their own in-country steps, which we map out in advance.
Dual citizenship and your status in Canada
Canada, and therefore Quebec, permits dual and multiple citizenship, so a second nationality generally sits alongside your Canadian status without disturbing it. If you also hold another citizenship, the question is whether that country allows you to keep it; some do not, so we confirm your specific position and refer you to qualified counsel before anything is filed.
Whether your instinct is European residency or a Caribbean passport, the most useful first step is a conversation about your goals rather than a country. You can check your eligibility in a few minutes, or book a free, confidential consultation with our licensed team. We work with Montreal and Quebec families entirely remotely, and you can reach us on +1 (416) 661-4487 — for a straight, unhurried assessment with no obligation.
Citizenship by Investment in Montreal — your questions answered
Does Quebec's own immigration system affect getting a second citizenship abroad?
No. Quebec's provincial selection is for people immigrating to the province and is a separate matter entirely. Citizenship or residency by investment is about acquiring a second nationality or residence abroad while you continue to live in Montreal, so it has no bearing on your Quebec or Canadian status.
Which European golden visa suits Montreal families best?
It depends on your goals. Portugal's Golden Visa uses investment funds from EUR 500,000 or a cultural contribution from EUR 250,000, needs only about seven days a year, and leads to citizenship after ten years. Greece uses property from EUR 250,000 to EUR 800,000 with no minimum stay, but citizenship needs seven years of genuine residence.
Can I still get Spain or Malta citizenship by investment?
No. Spain ended its golden visa in April 2025, and Malta's investor-citizenship route was ruled unlawful in 2025, so Malta now offers residency only. For a European passport by investment the realistic residence routes are Portugal and Greece, and even those lead to citizenship only after years of qualifying residence.
Do you work with Montreal clients remotely, and in French?
Yes, we run the whole process remotely across Quebec. Many of our Montreal clients are comfortable working in both English and French, and where helpful we coordinate directly with your own French-speaking accountant or notary. There is no need to travel to our Toronto office.
Is a Caribbean passport faster than European residency?
Yes, considerably. Caribbean programmes deliver a full second citizenship in months, with no residence requirement, from around a US$200,000 donation. European golden visas grant residency first, and citizenship follows only after seven to ten years of qualifying residence, so the right choice depends on whether you want a passport or a life in Europe.
Is the first consultation free?
Yes. Your first consultation is free and completely confidential. We use it to understand your goals, explain the realistic European and Caribbean routes, timelines and costs, and give you a straight assessment, with no obligation to proceed.
A Toronto business-owner family, a second passport in about five months
A GTA-based entrepreneur came to us with a familiar problem: a strong business, frequent international travel, and a passport that made every trip an exercise in visa paperwork. The family wanted broader travel freedom, a credible plan B for their two children, and — importantly — a legitimate route toward doing business in the United States. We mapped their goals against the leading Caribbean programmes and recommended Grenada, the only Caribbean citizenship that opens the door to the US E-2 investor visa. We handled the source-of-funds file, due-diligence preparation and the full application. Citizenship was approved in roughly five months, the family kept their Canadian lives entirely intact, and they now travel visa-free to more than 140 destinations.
